Vince and Kath textserye now has a movie

The first textserye, Vince and Kath, which became viral earlier this year has been made into a movie. It is entitled Vince & Kath & James and it will be shown in cinemas on December 25, 2016 starring Joshua Garcia as Vince, Julia Barretto as Kath and Ronnie Alonte as James. It is directed by Theodore Boborol under Star Cinema. The movie is also an official entry to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Originally, Vince and Kath was published in Life and Social Media Facebook page by Jenny Ruth Almocera on January 2, 2016. It was a story of two teenagers, a varsity player (Vince) and a cheerleader (Kath) who first became textmates and then later entered into a relationship. The story was narrated using screenshots of text message conversations between the characters. The SMS screenshots were compiled into Facebook image albums, wherein each album represents one chapter of the story. Though the story in the movie is a bit different than the original, it still fits the genre “teen romance”. According to Almocera, the story was inspired by old text messages in her cellphone…

… she picked her phone and skimmed through dozens of unread messages in her inbox. Nostalgia struck her as she typed the keypad. She suddenly remembered sweet messages she received from her many suitors during her college days. Recalling the sweet texts, she then decided to simulate a conversation through  the mobile app YASSY.

There were other textseryes that went viral after Vince and Kath. But Vince and Kath is the first textserye that was made into a movie. Watch the trailer below.
