Globe and Smart sent text messages to its subscribers warning them of possible loss of signal during Pope Francis’ visit. Telecommunication companies started sending text advisories three days ago before the arrival of Pope Francis. According to the said text messages, it was ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) as part of security measure for the Papal visit.

As we anticipate the historic arrival of Pope Francis in our country, we’ve installed additional cell sites within Manila, Makati and Pasay in anticipation of a surge in demand. However, the overwhelming number of people using our network in the said areas may result in signal and internet connection difficulties. We hope for your understanding. You may have experienced temporary loss of mobile signal and internet connection during Pop Francis’ arrival, especially in the areas surrounding his motorcade route. As Pope Francis flies to Tacloban and back on Saturday, our cellular services may be temporarily suspended on orders of government, in some areas of Metro Manila and Leyte, for the sake of public safety.
