Posted on by Caroline Siñel in Cellular Coverage

Globe and Smart sent text messages to its subscribers warning them of possible loss of signal during Pope Francis’ visit. Telecommunication companies started sending text advisories three days ago before the arrival of Pope Francis. According to the said text messages, it was ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) as part of security measure for the Papal visit.

As we anticipate the historic arrival of Pope Francis in our country, we’ve installed additional cell sites within Manila, Makati and Pasay in anticipation of a surge in demand. However, the overwhelming number of people using our network in the said areas may result in signal and internet connection difficulties. We hope for your understanding. Thank you,and may you have a memorable and meaningful papal visit experience. – Globe (1/15/2015 7:40 am)

You may have experienced temporary loss of mobile signal and internet connection during Pop Francis’ arrival, especially in the areas surrounding his motorcade route. This was done in compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications Commission. We hope for your understanding. Thank you. – Globe (1/15/2015 10:12 pm)
