Inday is currently the most popular fictional character in the texting community today. Inday is a nanny who uses formal english when speaking to her boss. Because of her?english-speaking ability, Inday was termed as Inday Sosyal or Sossy Inday.

Before Sossy Inday text messages came out, there were already a few text jokes on maids or nannies being passed around on cellphones. But the maids or nannies mentioned had no consistent personalities. Here’s one example of an ignorant nanny joke:

ng comforter sa kama.
Magsisyesta ako. (after 15
mins si inday
pinagpapawisan) Inday: Koya
nakalatag na po yung

Here’s one example of a mistress nanny joke:

and there are more. But lately, a series of text jokes mentioned a maid with a unique personality and stood out in the text messaging community. She’s the english-speaking Inday, also termed as Inday Sosyal or Sossy Inday. Unlike Ederlyn, Sossy Inday’s first text message is already worth forwarding:

Ma’am/sir,

I hereby tender my
irrevocable resignation as
your emplOyee, effective
tOday. It has been a
pleasant stay in ur company,
but owing to personal
reasons i am compelled to
move on.i would like to

The funny thing about Sossy Inday is not only her ability to speak in straight English but also her complicated, technical way of answering that made her boss feel stupid.

So it’s not surprising that, whatever fame Ederlyn had during her time would also happen to Sossy Inday. But we didn’t expect she’ll be more popular.

Comparing Ederlyn and Inday, the latter had a total of 80 text messages and counting, but the former only had 32 (as of this writing). Inday has 2 blogs, one on blogspot and one on wordpress, while Ederlyn only had a friendster account. Not only that. Last October 5, Inday jokes were re-enacted by Maureen Larazabal in a popular gag show, Bubble Gang. And just yesterday, October 10, Inday was mentioned in Inquirer! (image courtesy of Tonyo)

As of this writing, Inday is currently the most popular fictional character in the SMS community these days. But did you know that before Inday,?there’s already this fictional character Ederlyn who has always been mentioned on several text jokes in the texting community?

Ederlyn’s first text message contains an invitation to come to her birthday party:

When you first read the text message, you probably won’t think it is a joke, but rather a wrong-sent text message and you might delete it immediately. But after you receive the second one,

Nklimutan mo na ba
birthday ko? =c

that’s only when you’ll realize that this is a joke based on the first text message. It is too fun not to forward and that’s how her fame started. The people who receive the jokes contributed more jokes and made a series of jokes that made Ederlyn’s story more interesting. More and more fictional characters were introduced as the story progresses (Arman the suitor of Ederlyn, Chona Mae jealous of Ederlyn’s popularity, etc), creating a short SMS teleserye of some sort. Here’s another text joke where Ederlyn announced her plans of participating in a famous event called Lovapalooza:

And the more text messages you receive, the more you’ll know Ederlyn. She even invited everyone to add her friendster account!

And her text messages went on and on. I think, this is the effect of the unlimited texting promo of a certain telecommunications company. But when the telco increased its unlimitxt prices, Ederlyn’s jokes were affected and so her fame faded away.
